Ballinderreen Hurling Club, founded in 1884, is one of the oldest clubs in the association. It is a proud hurling parish which has produced many fine hurlers over the years and some of which have gone on to play for Galway. First of those was Mick Gill; he holds the record of winning two senior All-Ireland titles in the one year. The 1923 All-Ireland Final was played in 1924, where Mick played and won with Galway; he followed on by winning the 1924 All-Ireland Final with Dublin.
Ballinderreen had players involved in the victorious teams of 1980 (Joe McDonagh & Noel Lane) 1987 & 1988 (Noel Lane). The club has also produced many quality players who have represented Galway at minor and under-21 level. One of the club’s finest hours was when the late Joe McDonagh was elected president of the GAA association in 1997 and served until 2000.
